• Historical background

Nyakiambi girls started in 1968 as a mixed secondary school and became a girls’ only school in 1988.

The school was at that time two streamed until 2002 when a third stream was added.

 In 2009, a fourth stream was formed which is the current position.

 The students’ population has grown over the years to the present 670 students.

  • Geographical status

PRINCIPALThe school is located at the cool highlands of rift valley at an altitude of 3000 meters or 9000 feet above the sea level.

The area experiences a double maximum rainfall as it falls at a latitudinal location of 0002’S and a longitudinal location of 37o 05’E.

The physical location of the school is in the administrative district of Mirangine.

  • Social economical status of school location

The school community comprises of the teachers, students, support staff and parents.

NYAKIAMBI PREFECTSEducation administrators and business people are regular visitors to the school.

The school is surrounded by a farming community.

To help the school sustain itself, it has invested in dairy farming and crop farming.

The school also has a bus and a truck to help ferry students out for academic trips.

  8. Finances to employ the B.O.G teachers to curb the shortage of teachers.

  1. Inadequate human and financial resources in some service areas due to budgetary constraints.
  2. Lack of an alternative source of power to cater for black outs.
  3. Inability to accommodate all members of staff in the school due to a few staff houses.
  4. Minimal investments in I.C.T for a better educational research and learning.
  5. Lack of a school owned source of water.
  6. Lack of a motivational fund to encourage performance.
  7. Poor commitment and professional incompetence in some areas.



  1. Good rapport with the primary school’s around.
  2. The students’ and staff’s diverse background that enhances social understanding.
  3. An exploited potential of the schools’ alumni.
  4. Facilities to hold interschool games, symposiums and other meetings.
  5. Infrastructural support by the CDF.
  6. Availability of land where various agricultural enterprises can be introduced.
  7. A large population that can provide adequate bio-gas as a source of fuel.
  8. Many talents among the staff and students that can be exploited for the good of the school.


  1. Frequent changes in the national curriculum rendering some resources obsolete e.g. texts books.
  2. Geographical situation of the school where the climate is unpredictable hence a challenge to the students and staff.
  3. Poor accessibility to the school due to a poor road network hence discouraging accessibility by the stake holders.
  4. Unpredictable fluctuation in prices of food and other commodities against an inelastic budgetary provision making school management difficult.
  5. Constant power interruptions by Kenya Power
